Long ago, man knew this and was afraid. Man knew the truth of what was hidden in shadow, and shared this knowledge through stories. But as man became more "enlightened," he began to see these stories as mere fiction. Make believe. Tales to delight the imagination of children. Nothing more. As more and more generations of man came of age without truly seeing, man all but lost the ability to perceive that which the shadows hide.
Now, hundreds of years later, man is at his pinnacle. Man is educated, technologically advanced, and certain of his superior knowledge and understanding.
But the creatures that dwell in shadow still exist. The fairies and goblins, elves and dwarves, ogres and fierce monsters dwell among mankind in secret. Some pass as humans and are regarded as such. For the rational human mind cannot conceive of anything else. Others cannot, and are dismissed, unseen, confused for another creature, or ignored entirely.
But all are real.
Some can even see them for what they are.
